By Catherine Davies
As most songwriters and lyricists know,
knowing which recording artists write
their own songs - and which ones don't -
can make the difference between
writing
songs and lyrics
as a hobby ... and
becoming a professional, money-making
songwriter.

There are many
Recording Artists today
who don't write their own songs, and
therefore they rely on
songwriters and
lyricists like you to provide them with
new, original songs & lyrics to consider
for recording.   And of course, knowing
which Recording Artists don't write their
own songs and lyrics   will help you
determine which recording artists you
should send
your songs and lyrics to.
Many songwriters and lyric-writers
have learned the hard way that a lot of
recording artists who
do write their own
material often won't accept songs and
lyrics that are submitted to them.  This
makes sense, because they write their
own material and therefore they don't
need to go elsewhere to find new,
original song material to record.

But recording artists who DON’T write
their own material usually do need to
see new songs coming in on a regular
basis, in order to choose the
songs
and lyrics
that they feel they could turn
into hit songs.

Here's how to find out
which Recording
Artists don't write their own songs, to
make sure that you to send your songs
and lyrics to the right recording artists:
1. Check the Artist’s Song Credits

Whether you have a CD of a recording
artist's songs or the downloaded mp3
file and digital album cover, take a look
at the
songwriting credits listed inside
the album cover or liner. This will tell
you if the artist wrote the song or if it
was written by another
songwriter.

Songwriters who want to get their songs and
lyrics recorded by top Recording Artists
should send their songs to
Recording Artists
who don't write their own material.
2. Check the Billboard Song Charts

Another way
songwriters can see which
Recording Artists don’t write their own
songs is to check the Billboard song
charts.  After each song title listed in the
charts, the
songwriter’s name is listed,
usually in brackets.   This will confirm
whether or not the recording artist wrote
the song, and help you determine which
artists would need new songs.
