Which Recording Artists Need New Songs & Lyrics?
|
Vol. 8 The #1 Source for New and Current Songwriting Opportunities Issue 10
|
Knowing which recording artists need
new songs and lyrics can be all that
separates songwriters who write songs
as a hobby, and those who write money-
making hit songs. Many hit song writers
and agents tell us that this is the most
important thing to find out before sending
out your songs & lyrics. The good news
is that there are a lot recording artists
who don't write their own songs, and rely
on songwriters and lyricists to supply
them with new, original songs and lyrics
to record. Many successful songwriters
tell us that knowing which recording
artists are looking for new songs and
lyrics is what helped them become a hit
songwriter, and is crucial to their
songwriting success. For example, do
you know which artists write their own
songs - and which don’t?
As a songwriter or lyricist, this is key
information that you will likely want to
know. Quite simply, recording artists
who write their own material won’t
usually need and may not even accept
new material from other songwriters.
But recording artists who DON’T write
their own material will always need to
see new songs coming in, in order to
select the songs and lyrics that they
feel they could achieve the most
success with. In a sense, they are
dependant on songwriters to provide
them with new, original song material,
since they don’t write their own songs.
So before you send out any of your
songs and lyrics to Recording Artists,
do a few minutes worth of important
songwriting research first, to find out
which recording artists don't write all or
most of their own songs:
1. Check the Artist’s Song Credits
Whether you have the actual CD of a
recording artist's songs or the digitally
downloaded mp3 file and digital album
cover, you will want to take a look at the
songwriting credits that are usually
listed inside the album cover or liner.
The songs are generally listed in the
order they appear, followed by the
songwriter’s name. This will tell you
whether the recording artist wrote the
songs ... or whether the songs were
written by other songwriters.
This is very important, because it will
tell you whether or not the recording
artist writes their own songs. If they
do, then sending them your songs may
not help your songwriting career.
